The lost king of the Argentine sky

Argentavis magnificent is probably one of the most favorite extinct bird of mine. This giant relative of new world vulture such as turkey vulture and condors is the biggest flying bird ever lived with wingspan up to 7 metres and stand up to 2 metres from feet to head! They once roamed the place which is now Argentina. Their feeding habit is probably mainly forage for carrion. However, due to its enormous size, this big bird can easily displace any ground predators from their kill. However, their long and wide gap beak suggest that they are less of a scarvenger than vultures and is probably more like a huge caracara than vulture.

The restoration was inspired by many living birds such as Egyptian Vulture, Secretary Bird, Andean Condor and Nicobar Pigeon.
